Declaration...

I think its time to make a Declaration of Intent to Secede. I've nearly decided that the vacuumous world of Facebook has very nearly killed my blogging, and i'm about to draw the line. As i've stated many times, the blog exists for the future, for the Royals...you just get to read it before they do. Its an ongoing autobiographic of The Kingdom...our family and growing up, discovering, parenting, living...loving. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace...you name it, is by nature a cheap trick, a quick opiate for comment junkies. I've come to realize that it has charmed me for a season, but i am beginning to see the seductress for who she really is...a cheap whore robbing me, and my family, of memories of the present...in the future. So, if you are a friend of mine on Floozbook and you wanna keep in touch, might wanna think about getting yourself a Personalized Placemat (on the sidebar to your immediate right) or bookmarking the site for future reference.

Now, with that said, i certainly do not regard those who continue with Facebook (or whatever e-venue you choose) as base or immature or whatever offense one may take in my statements. It has its place, it is good for communication, finding old friends and such. It is merely a bane to me. As stated, it has been a narcotic, and the euphoria begins to sicken me. If you enjoy it...great! If you find it has value...fantastic. Its just taking up too much of my time, that i've determined should be spent chronicling things that happen here.

So, i'll be here...with a hot cup of Irish coffee (or some other Celtic laden tipple)...any time you wanna join me around The Table...i'll be happy for the company...

Slainte'!

The Deeper things...

The Queen and i, being childless for the weekend, are very busy today...painting. i have much to do to prepare for that i.e. have little time to blog. I'll leave you with an ongoing conversation between the good Doc and i recently...

Doc:
Knowing comes naturally, passively, like breathing out. It's resisting knowing, denial, that requires effort. And it's believing that requires the greatest paradoxical effort of all, because it requires conscious, rather than passive, relaxation. Believing is a cessation of denial. Believing is fully accepting what we've already known all along.

The Piper:
Interesting how one can choose to believe in falsehood rather than truth whether by ignorance or by knowledge. Ignorance by simply not knowing truth in the first place and not having a desire to discover the reality, and knowledge in discovering the truth and not accepting it because of its reality. It is then, the denial part that is the greatest cancer of the soul...when one chooses to deny truth and accepts the deception in place of it...that is a very dangerous, albeit wider path indeed.

HBJB ... Part Deux

A couple years back, i wrote, directed, and produced a short musical, ironically it was this same date. I uploaded it HERE, if you want the Part 1. Anyhoo, it got rave reviews and the tens of thous...tens, who actually saw it loved it. I have then, decided to do a Part Deux.

This is dedicated in whole to a jewel of a girl who is a VIP to us here in The Friendly Confines of The Kingdom. So JB...here's your second installment and hopefully many, many more to come...

We ALL love you VERY MUCH, and count ourselves privileged to call you friend.

Everyone else...please make the click over to Skybag's place and leave your tidings there.

Slippery when...HOT?

Man, is it ever going to slow down? Seems like the hotter it gets, the faster we go! Yesteday, our thermo-meter read 105.3*...and fans...that was in the SHADE! i'll get a pic of it today since its suppose to do it again, and again, and maybe...again!

Saw a quote from Churchill today that said, "If you're going through hell...keep going." Well, i don't think we're particularly in that position, since there's many folks in worse shape, but man...its freaking HOT here.

Yesterday, i played taxi cab driver for a country band called Ricochet that came to town to do a benefit gig. They were some pretty good guys if not pretty good golfers. We took them to The Territory, and it ate us all for breakfast...ain't that right Dawg? Anyway, it was fun.

In other news...Facebook just keeps on amazing. Friends from the past, whom i had forgotten or certain that they had forgotten me, keep finding me. Just this morning i got a hit from my old roommate in college (no, not the same one i told you about a couple months ago). He looks to be doing great! Working for Amnesty Int'l and globetrotting...right now living in London. Poor guy! What an interesting turn though...he was from where we live now, and i never thought i'd be living here, of course, back in school i'm sure he never thought he'd be working for AI travelling the globe. It's funny, i always remember him when i hear, or think of the word, of all things...vegemite. His mom, who lived in London, would send it to him, and he'd pull it out on occasion and we'd have a vegemite sandwich. I remember the first time i had it...i was like WHOA! THAT is a BIG taste! But, you know, it was REALLY good! That was the last time i've had it and i still miss it! and kids...that was...18 years ago! Man, i can't believe its been that long! I know, its crazy that a food would trigger a memory...but i am what i am. "Hi, i'm Piper...and...i'm a foodie."

Here's kind of a freaky little item...Last night i dreamed i was at a football game...it was like a Sooners game or something...and who but Doc and his team dropped in for a visit...literally. Sadly, i couldn't find him once they landed...somewhat haphazardly, on the field, in the crowd...anyway...now i'm dreaming about my blogbuddies! It's a mystical world this blogosphere.

Wofo's on parade...

There are times in this life when you meet someone that you just connect with. A rare opportunity indeed. In some cases this convergence results in friendships that last a lifetime, in some cases it is an evanescent conclave that you revisit in your mind and fondly remember...

Today was one of those days for me...

It was odd, actually, for me to see these pictures and realize that we were of the same height. Perhaps it was the uniform...perhaps just the energy, the persona, of the occupant...but here was one of those very few that seem larger than life, even when you are standing next to them.

There was none of that military brashness, that i find so appalling, this was a man of governing sanction yet genuine, kind, and humble. I hope that we have the opportunity to meet again in a future time and place, other than this medium, and shake hands once again.

Thanks Doc, thankyou so much, it was a pleasure for us all...

Scarred Path...

This is a subject that i have thought about for countless hours (mostly while standing over a chunk of wood spinning on a lathe at 3200 rpm). Its really neither pleasant nor caustic, it's just my perspective. I have finally decided to write this out, without really knowing just how far i will walk down this particular path, or which forks i will decide to take.

Tonight, i was checking e-mail and noticed that my old roommate from college was requesting that i add him as a friend on Facebook. I couldn't believe he had actually found me! It was really kinda nice. Of course i added him, we had been dang near inseparable during high school and then into college. We had some really really good times, and great talks, he was a great friend. He was there for me through some of those really difficult times one faces in the high school and college years. Then, something happened...i was never really quite sure what...it was just like the friendship slowly circled the drain and finally...nothing. After college, it was like he had dropped off the face of the planet. I mean sure, everyone, EVERYONE goes their separate ways. You have the opportunity to befriend someone for seasons in your life, and then that season is over. But this seemed different, i don't know...just strange how there was such a good friendship and then in a matter of a few months...nothing. I always wanted to get back in touch with him but was never really sure what to say, because even after all this time, i never really knew what happened. But now, it'll be good to catch up with him and his family, so i'm glad for the contact and really looking forward to corresponding with him like opening a bottle of 18 year old Glenmorangie.

But, that's not really why i'm writing about all this. There is a deeper sentiment. A deeper...struggle.

In forty years of life, i've made a number of friends, some lifetime kinships, some merely evanescent companions. Reviving any of them would be a joy to me. Fortunately, in a couple instances, i've had the opportunity to be able to do just that and its been such a warm reunion. Yet, of the many, there are very, VERY few that i care nothing to restore again. THAT is what this is all about. Of course, there must be some reason that i would have such convictions about those chosen ones, and it centers around a very ugly word...betrayal. The word in and of itself contrives ghastly images in the minds eye at its utterance. I've felt its hideous teeth, and i've struggled with the wound ever since.

For the word to have any sense of power, there must first be friendship, deep and lasting. There must be things shared, there must be...a bond, yea...a covenant. Then comes the time when that covenant is broken, and not so much just broken...severed. Irreparably. Though i'm sure in some cases, there can be reconciliation of sorts, but for me...i don't know...i... just... don't... know.

Yes, there has been contact. Yes, there has been forgiveness, not necessarily asked for, but given. For my own sake, i HAD to. Because after years of constantly begging the question...WHY? I finally resolved that it was not something i had done or not done...it was just the way the world and its populace executes life. But now, as a soldier at some point looks back at a particular battlefield, and thinks, "You know... it happened...its over, and i'm good with it... but i don't really ever care to see that place again."

Yet, within me...there is the question left begging when something sparks the memories of time spent...why?... WHY? I just wanna know...and in knowing...would it really ease the pain of the throbbing scar? And that being the case...have i really REALLY forgiven? Is betrayal something that can be forgiven but not necessarily forgotten? Can one eventually forget? Can i? Will i?

It is said that time heals all wounds, but in some cases there's that ugly scar, and when it gets bumped on occasion, and those memories flood in like so much blood...

and for some reason, that is where i am tonight, looking at that scar...wondering if it will ever fade like so many others have on my outer carton.

Am i thankful? You bet! Am i grateful? Absolutely! I have a virtuous, priceless jewel for a wife, and four little precious stones that i love tremendously. I have a good family that i treasure. I now have friends...no...i have family that don't share my earthy blood that i consider beyond calculatory value. And i thank my God that He has brought me through all that to have all this...

But on the occasion that the scar gets bumped, and i remember...

well...still, even after all these years...

it hurts.
