Gimme One Reason...

Remember that old tune from Tracy Chapman? I always thought that a pretty cool tune...well lemme give you about 77 good reasons to live in OK,

Check this link out! Yeah, you see that DARK GREEN county in the SW corner? That would be us. Gas prices in Lawton today...$3.09 (which by the way i think is still ridiculous) but it's better than the $4.39 my friend is paying in CHI.

Why 77 you ask? Well because EVERY county in OK is some shade of green, unlike the other 48 states (Jersey doesn't really count as a state, its just a suburb of NY)

You know what...make that 78 reasons...

SC lost last night to the Mighty Fightin' Beavers of Oregon St! Provided we take care of the TCU Horny Toads this weekend that would put the Sooners in Kings Corner!

"OOOOOOOOOklahoma where the wind comes sweepin' down the plains,
and the waivin' wheat sure smells sweet..."

BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!!

Tracy is a favorite of mine. I have a version of "Gimme One Reason" that is Tracy with Eric Clapton...very nice. Colt especially enjoys it since he is a guitar man.

Gas prices...glad to see they're down.

Sooners...glad to see they're up.

Main reason for my comment...your kids' library list. I can't pass by a list of books without checking it out. "I Spy" books are fun! Riley really likes Beatrix Potter. Her books are an artistic pleasure. I love Miss Potter's illustrations, of course. We recently acquired a "Frog & Toad" collection, a fondness resulting from my own childhood. Colt & I love Dr. Seuss, but I missed out with Riley. They creep him out! Thank you for helping me discover "McGuffey's Eclectic Spelling Book." Anything from 1879's gotta be good! Lastly, "Brother's Grimm"? Yikes. For you or the kids?

I love that song, as well as "Fast Car". Kinda reminds me of my life about fifteen years ago.

Living in OK? Judging from what I saw passing through many years past (driving solo from LA to Atlanta) it looks pretty, but being ground zero for massive tornadoes kinda spooks me a bit. Of course, this is coming from someone who spent a goodish chunk of time in Southern California and is now seriously contemplating a move to Houston. Hey, that's where I hear the jobs and cheap housing are.

That gas map is way-cool (and bookmarked, as well)... thanks for that!

I thought ya might be pleased with SC's loss. I'm thinking it might be a lil less than a blow-out when they play ND at the end of the season. One hopes, anyway.

Jewels...yeah i like Tracy, don't know why i've not purchased more of her stuff. About the books...we just read "Ginger and Pickles" a couple weeks ago and the loved it...so the Potter collection is a must, and she's obviously a great childrens writer and like you said, the art is just an Italian deli for the eyes. One nice thing i have is a friend in Chicago was was recently on the Newberry Award committee and nominated for the Caldecott Award committee. She has her master's in children's lit...so she's a great resource. Brothers Grimm...Ha! yeah, probably more for me...btw, did you see MY list? Lotsa classical stuff in there.

Dave...its the age old discussion of what you grow up with. Tornadoes don't bother me...hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, and tidal waves...yeah those spook me. Not to say anything of living anywhere near any city with more than 1 million. That is just asking for trouble of a different sort. Cheap housing in HOU? Only if you're from the lowa nin't wahd.

You just can't imagine how intriguing that is to me.

The wind usually comes "Whippin' over the plains" and that could be one strike against living here. Tornadoes are not so bad - it's just a season and it seems other parts of the country have had more problems than us lately. The people and friends are the main reason to live here.
