One Moment...

As of exactly (as i write the time) 30 minutes ago, we have a 4 year old. Its strange to think about four years ago right now...i was standing in a delivery room in the golf shoes i had had on all day, leaning over a small table equipped with a nice warmer that was obviously doing a great job, watching our first newborn baby girl sleep after such an ordeal as she had just been through. All the reading and talking that i had done to her while she was in Mama's tummy at all those bedtimes had paid off. While she had been screaming her little lungs out, i went over to the warmer and spoke softly to her, calling her by name, she quieted down and turned her tiny head towards me, i reached out and took her little hand between my finger and thumb. And it all started right there, i was hooked, i had a baby girl, and the whole entire course of my life changed... again. At that very moment when her eyes, unfocused as they were, looked in the direction of my voice, i became a "Daddy". For me, it was an unforgettable moment, one of those that somehow gets locked in the memory collection, that only i can open, and remember, and cherish. Now, she's four, and she can still do it, just look my direction and smile, knowing that i'm there, close to her, and it sends me back through time and space into a delivery room, just her and me, one moment, and i remember...

I remember the moment they put Bo in my arms. His eyes were huge, his head so mis-shaped, forcept marks on his temples. He had more skin than meat on his bones. And I thought Oh my gosh, I love him like no other. It was a moment like no other and one that is difficult to explain, but a parent knows the feeling. Hold on to that feeling because there comes times when you think - I brought you into this world and I can take you out. Fortunately, you have a god that gives patience and love, mercy and grace.

Lou says: ...there comes times when you think - I brought you into this world and I can take you out.

And, in the case of boys, there comes a time when you know you wouldn't wanna try, because they could take YOU out!

But...back to the original point: parenting changes everything! Every single thing.

Congrats to Madison on her birthday. You, too, Piper!

ahhh....the immortal words of Bill Cosby, "Boy, i brought you into this world, i can take you out, and it don't matter to me, cuz i can make another one look just like ya..." and then, of course, as Uncle Buck says, "there comes a time...they could take YOU out!" and the circle is complete. One of the purposes for the prayers for my children is that when they get old enough to do so, they'll more fully understand what MamaLou was speaking of at the end of her comment, the "God that gives patience, and love, mercy and grace." And i would add, to those who diligently seek Him (not free as most would think).

Thankyou to both of you for your sentiments, Madison had a very happy birthday...but then, that's a whole nuther pond to fish.

Toby and Bo still "wrassle" which can cause damage to the furniture and those around them. Bo is amazingly strong, but Toby is dirty.

Just something to look forward to with your boy. Get your bluff in early.

I've known one other guy like Bo in my life. They both are about the same build, well Eric may be slightly bigger overall, but the same overall structure. Like you said, "amazingly strong", it always shocked me how strong Eric was when we wrassled, same with Bo, although we haven't really done so, i remember there was a time when Bo and i were doing something and it reminded me of my friend back in college. Must be repressed anger at that doctor with the forceps.
