Can'tcha see...

I was just gonna post a little note and a pic...but i realized i just can't...sooooo...

I got to telling MamaLou about this so i thought it good blog fodder...and here's some ear candy for the road...

Back a few years ago we were coming back from our Arizona escapade and taking the scenic route doing it. We were heading for Denver, in a roundabout manner, and stopped off to visit my great aunt and uncle in Cortez, CO which is set like a small opal in the arid SW corner of sunny CO. We had a great time visiting with them. They showed us all around Cortez and took us up to Mesa Verde, which we decided to take a full tour of the next day. If you haven't been, well...put it on that Bucket List...its that kinda cool. We ended up spending a couple days with them and got to hear some great stories since they have lived in Cortez for...many, many, MANY moons...i think maybe they did some trading with the Mesa Verdans back in the day...mostly from his homemade wine from his homemade wine cellar.

When we decided to leave, i asked Uncle Billy which was the best way to get to Denver since there's really no FAST way from Cortez to anywhere...as it should be. He hemmed and hawed, and then there's... and finally decided to send us up by way of Utah...i know what you're thinking..."wait, isn't Utah WEST and Denver is EAST of Cortez?" Well, yeah...but you gotta understand...nobody is in a hurry to get anywhere in Cortez...and come to think of it...neither were we. As a caveat he said, "Now make sure when you get outside of Monticello to look for Horsehead Peak...you'll know it when you see it...course, it took me thirty years to see it, but you might see it right off." Oh good. A treasure hunt/challenge. I couldn't hardly wait... So off we went.

The spirit of Cortez himself must've been with me...cuz i was like a hound on track looking for that geo-cache. Uncle Billy, probably baiting the hook, was vaguely descriptive of what i was looking for...and when i say 'vaguely' i mean like vaporous, so by the time we hit the Utah line i was salivating to see something...ANYTHING...

"Is that it...that kinda looks like a...no, no that can't be...ooooh what's that over there...that's a...no, no....OH WAIT now THAT LOOKS...no" This went on for like 50 miles. Every new run of peaks sent my eyes racing up and down them.

I had just about given...wait...i think...what is...i gotta get closer to this...how far is Monticello...what was it he said...i'm not sure but...what am i supposed to...HOLY FREAKING COW! I mean... THAT IS A FREAKING HORSE HEAD RIGHT THERE IN THAT MOUNTAIN!!!! So i call The Queen who is driving the car in front of me...

"DO YOU SEE IT?!!! (am i screaming?)

"IT'S RIGHT THERE! LOOK TO THE LEFT OF THAT PEAK, (ok control yourself), down the face of the mountain, do you see the outline? OK its like...the horse is looking to the North...no, kinda adjust your eyes like looking at one of those 3D images...you see it? His ears are at the top...and he has a blaze face...YEAH THAT'S IT!!!! YOU SEE IT NOW?!! Is that not the coolest...?

Man i was stoked! I danged near bought a postcard at the gas station we stopped at. But i just took some pics instead.

The rest of the trip was cool too, we actually passed very close to Moab and the rock formations in that area are just pretty cool, but we really needed to push on even though i would've loved to stop. Anyway, for those of you who have never seen or may never pass that way...

pretty cool, eh!

Chillydrone...

Not recently, sadly enough, i was meme'd to post my wallpaper...i have failed to do so, here is my submission, sorry it took so long.

This was my take on a pic MamaLou had sent me from their visit to Aberdeen, SCO. No these aren't necessarily the original colors, i played with it in my photolab and thought this looked more like a painting, which obviously, reminds me of the sender.

A review of sorts...

This past weekend while 'incapacitated' i had the opportunity to watch a couple movies i've been wanting to see...

Never having been a Leonardo DiCaprio fan, I've liked him in ONE movie (Gangs of New York) where he was completely put in his place in an acting sense by Daniel Day Lewis and even the cameo of Liam Neeson. With that in mind, i dispassionately undertook "Blood Diamond". After having viewed the trailers at a previous movie,i was intrigued by the storyline. i missed the theatre version and finally caught it on HBO during the free preview weekend. Never fear, i am still not a fan of Leonardo DiAveragio playing a soldier of fortune type. IMO he was showed up again, this time by Djimon Hounsou (whom i loved in Gladiator) who plays a refugee father seeking a lost son. The movie was somewhat entertaining, it held me from a fatherly standpoint, but that being a subplot made the main a bit anticlimatic, and the subplot became the story for me. Perhaps that was the goal...no?

The next was Eric Bana in Munich. Much better because it was based on the actual events surrounding the massacre of the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics and the aftermath. Of course, there was plenty of Hollywood fictionalization, but still and yet, gave me enough curiosity to seek out more of the true actual events portrayed. After careful consideration, i'll not be adding this one to the library, though i did give it a second look.

The other day i saw an ad in the Post Office of all places for HBO's "John Adams". It was a full 8' standup, it performed the intended...it captured my attention. Which, of course, due to the subject matter, is not difficult. If its Colonial, i'm interested. Its just one of those times in history that i gravitate towards. As stated earlier, we had a free preview weekend of HBO and i caught the initial installment "Join or Die". I was locked in from the very beginning. In fact, its so intense that i'm considering getting HBO for the remainder of the miniseries. Tonight, while re-watching episode 1, i realized that Tom Hanks is one of the two producers, and i thought, "Well...no wonder its so good." Band of Brothers is one of my absolute favorite video accounts of WWII. Paul Giamatti makes an unbelieveable John Q. Adams, he brings a passion to the character i would have never thought he could do. I am urging you, if you don't have access to HBO that's fine, but by all means, when this comes out on disc, get your patriotic little hands on this, it will remind you of what "Life, Libery, and the Pursuit of Happiness" is all about.

Of the three, there is really only one recommendation, and i'm pretty sure i've made that one clear.

Lost time...

After being sick for so long i'm kinda making up for some lost time here. And i thought i'd give you early birds something to start your day on. I took this pic a few weeks ago and have meant to post it ever since.

A Psalm [or] Song for the sabbath day. [It is a] good [thing] to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to thy name, O Most High.
To show forth thy loving-kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.
Ps. 92:1-2
