Aspen vs. Oak

It has come to my attention that SOME of y'all think Oklahoma is ugly...read 'teepees and tumbleweeds'. Well, let this post serve notice, it don't ALL look like pumpjacks and black jacks. We, and a passel of other friends, read 'family' went campin this weekend in the Wichita Mountains. I know, you sunny CO readers are chuckling at my use of 'mountains'...i didn't name them...deal with it. Regardless, a mountainside of aspens versus a mountainside of hardwoods in the Fall... you make the call...i can't. They can both take the breath away...

NO! i ain't jokin'...THIS is less than an hour away from my front door...in fact, on a clear day (which is most of'em...i can SEE these mountains if i just walk up the hill.)

Satisfied? OK one more...

and y'all thought i was just here for the beer and football... heh..gotcha!

The Wichitas are beautiful. The Eastern lakes and rivers are also gorgeous. No, OK, is much more than people think.

Great pics... and your point about "not all pumpjacks and blackjacks" is well taken.

But... a war story. Shortly after I moved to OKC... during my first Fall there... I happen to mention to a civilian co-worker of mine that I sorta missed being up north for the change of season. "Why?" said she, a middle aged gal born and raised in OKC. "Because there's no trees here," said I. To which she got GREATLY offended, as she took me quite literally, to the effect of "We most certainly DO have trees!!" It took me a while to convince her that scrub oaks don't really count...
