Actually its more weighty than that so listen up...
I've actually been wanting to weigh in on this subject for a few days and am finally getting an extra few minutes to do so. Please take this with the knowledge that I AM NOT A DOCTOR, nor am i a health lab chemist or associated with any. I do however consider myself to have a helluva lot of good ole fashioned horse sense and that alone has kept me out of trouble within and without.
That said...if you've been listening, watching, reading, or otherwise swallowing the widespread panic regarding the pig flu pandemic (and i wish you could watch my eyes roll back in my head when i say the word 'pandemic' since it ranks right up there with 'horrific' in my book) read this taken from today's WHO website

Swine influenza - update 4
28 April 2009--The situation continues to evolve rapidly. As of 19:15 GMT, 28 April 2009, seven countries have officially reported cases of swine influenza A/H1N1 infection. The United States Government has reported 64 laboratory confirmed human cases, with no deaths. Mexico has reported 26 confirmed human cases of infection including seven deaths.
The following countries have reported laboratory confirmed cases with no deaths - Canada (6), New Zealand (3), the United Kingdom (2), Israel (2) and Spain (2).
Further information on the situation will be available on the WHO website on a regular basis.
WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders. It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities.
There is also no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products. Individuals are advised to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness.
Did you catch that part on 'no restriction of regular travel' and especially the 'prudent' verbiage? and the very important part about "There is also no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products". Which is all important here at The Table folks...we likes our poke ribs...smoked, grilled, paneed, stewed...you name it...if it says "Oink"...as a GENERAL rule...we eat it. and if's we gets concerned we warsh it down with a pint of good beer or a shot or two of the Nectar, and we're good.
Folks, swine flu ain't Ebola, and it dang sure ain't Anthrax...let's treat it for what it is...its the flu...nothing more...nothing less. There's a whole list of things out there that could get you before the voracious gullet of pig flu swallows you whole.
Lemme end on this note i've seen at the CDC and WHO websites...it's REAL SIMPLE

All this other business...let the worry warts do their worst, and let the world spin.

As I've stated elsewhere, we've come a long way since the bad old days of the 1919 pandemic or the Black Plague. Technology, hygiene, and access to health services (questionable given HMOs, but that's another rant) is much better these days. The flu may spread, numerous people may get sick, and a few may actually die. But I believe we can weather this without all the doom and gloom scenarios that our Chicken Little news media wants us to believe are imminent.
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a calm-monger, Jay. How's anybody to get a good panic going with people like you spreading the truth. Knock it off. Or at least wait until I can unload all these face masks. Geez.
Do you think people really think you can get swine flu from eating pork? That just seems silly.

Here's an idea...i'll go get it, have the camera's on me before, during, and after and PROVE to the world that one CAN truly survive pig flu, bird flu, or whatever... it'll be the newest medical reality show, all the advertisers will be flu drug retailers...i'll call it... Remnant...i'll make millions, retire to a remote South Pacific island and happily die of a mai-tai pickled liver somewhere around 2072 at 105.
And now there is this, which includes more irresponsibly calm pronouncements from WHO: "Asked for advice for ordinary citizens, Chan, the WHO chief, said: 'Continue with your business but try to pay special attention to personal hygiene.'"
That sort of further intensified calm-mongering can only mean that the end of the world is near. Make your final arrangements. This would be a good time to run up your credit cards to their limit and try to find some alone time with Megan Fox sans bodyguards. All bets are off.

I'm with you. This makes me absolutely nuts.
You should hear my son now at school. Evidently all the 8th graders laugh about it. They think it's a joke... and honestly, I do wonder if we're raising a generation of cynics who will never believe anything they hear, which is not a bad thing necessarily, considering.
Anyway, some little girl was out with the regular flu. She came back and my son said to her, "Great! You probably had the swine flu and didn't even know it. You came back to school and you're going to kill us all!" At which point someone yelled, "Everyone... to the Gojo!" which I guess is the big jug of sanitizer on the teacher's desk.
Poor little girl... they nicknamed her Swiney for the day. ;-) (Beautiful girl...)
