Well...it seems to be working. I decided that the de-Christmasing of the house would go much better without me in it. So i've been filling the house with the aroma's of hot yeasty goodness most of the day. I started with a really easy, really good pizza crust by Mario Batali, following that with a beautiful loaf of light, crusty French bread. I did Kingdomize the crusts by adding some garlic powder, basil, and tarragon...honestly, one really doesn't need any topping at that point, just a little herbed olive oil and some vino and you're set for the evening...but the Royals need a bit more. So i made a margarita pizza out of one and used up the last of the Christmas ham on the other. I highly recommend the margarita pizza...the other was certainly edible but not everything i had hoped for. The Royals didn't care, they bulldozed their way through that margarita pizza...well most of them...The Prince worked his way nicely through most of the first one until he contentedly dozed off in his blissful slice o'margarita, so we charged him on a DUI and carted him off to a nap.
Two of the four Royals are still conscious and playing with the dregs of Christmas past. The Queen is on the couch, seriously contemplating the insides of her eyelids, the Vikings are trying to get through the first round of the playoffs, and i am about to break off a piece of that yeasty goodness ala Francais.
...and the Kingdom lulls another Southern evening to a sleepy Winter night with the sounds of laughter, football, and crusty buttered bread.

I've been missing my fill of the royals. We may need to get together soon.
I keep clicking "Filet Mignon" and nothing happens. I even tried "Short Ribs" a time or two. Still nothing. Are my orders not being processed? This is poor service, not what I would expect from one of such Southern gentility. Get it right or I'm going to have to take my business elsewhere.

There's not much better in life than french bread done right... and I suspect yours IS done right, Jay, since you used "crusty" to describe it. OTOH... There's NOTHING worse than those abominations of re-labeled and re-shaped plain ol' Murcan WHITE bread that pass for "French bread" in most parts of these United States.

MamaLou, i'm good with that...we've been missing you all too.
Bo, so sorry about that, but i know what you are trying to do and i'm all for it.
Uncle Buck, oh i hear ya...its always so funny going to local bakeries and looking at their "French" bread. It might as well be a really large french fry.
Sounds wonderful! Bread is not my forte on baking. Apple pie, however...
I hear there's gonna be a good football game tomorrow night -- I wish you lots of laughter to go with it. (Bread would be good, too.)
