Two weeks...it starts in two weeks...Are You Ready?
Just a couple Olympic observations:
1. Michael Phelps is...ok i guess.
2. Dara Torres is too.
3. Usain Bolt is pretty fast, but really...how fast is he? At the 200...please try.
4. I hate to sound redundant but...8 gold medals? And from all indications...couldn'tve happened to a nicer guy. Hey...where is his Dad?

THAT is an excellent question... and I've had the same sorts of thoughts. But, that lil issue aside, I've run out of superlatives for the guy. He's just amazing.
As I read between the lines -- it appears that Phelps's dad abandoned the family pretty early in the young man's life.
How about that beach volleyball? I sure would like to see some girl's softball - I heard they won their 22 consecutive game in the Olympics. But no, I had to wait through the Women's marathon watching annorexic women plod along in a pack for hours.

That's kinda-sorta what I thought when the synchronized swimming came on last night. But I stuck with it, coz those women are anything BUT anorexic. ;-)

Michael's dad left when Michael was 7, parents divorced when he was 9 and they have an on and off relationship. His dad has been watching the Olympics in Baltimore and has declined interviews. His quote to a reporter was that he did not want to distract from Michael's phenomenal efforts with stories from his family's past. He wanted the focus on Michael to be positive because he is proud of him. Decent man. He so could have tried for his 15 minutes of fame but did not.
