Mother's Day Rewarmed...

Actually Mother's Day was pretty quiet around here. The Queen decided she wanted mexican food, of all things, for lunch so that's where we went after church. Since the food was barely and the service certainly wasn't really worth mentioning and I can't report on the happenings there until given clearance from GBN1's dad, i suppose you'll just have to settle for...we all had a great time.

We came home and since everyone was pretty full of chips and salsa, we all crumpled onto something once inside the door. The Queen landed on a couch, with two or three Royals located in her near vicinity. I found a blanket and it found a sunny patch of grass in the backyard. Before i dropped off, The Queen had put on some James Taylor that gently floated on the cool breeze and soaked in with the warm sun...the stuff with which dreams begin.

We dozed lazily for an hour or so, the Royals needed to burn off all the pent up energy from a morning at church and the high carb lunch fare, so they couldn't stay down long and like a bell at the horsetrack they broke for the swingset next door. I roused myself to find The Queen doing the same in the house. She busied herself with tying up a few loose laundry ends, and i began hanging some of the treasures we had confiscated for her on Saturday.

She had given me some ideas for gifts earlier in the week. I had confessed to her on Friday that since they were of the decorative type for the house, i really had no idea what she had in mind, and thought we could just go hunting while in town visiting Sam's. We hit the jackpot at Hobby Lobby. They were having a huge sale on all their wallhanging stuff. She decided on a wrought iron filigree in the New Orleans style...it's really cool. She was also looking for a shelf something of the same type for the bathroom wall but didn't find anything she liked. She said that The Diva had something at The La that she liked and would go by there and see if it was still available. I found this cool wrought iron Cafe Au Lait sign that looks pretty daggone cool in the kitchen. This was actually a very enlightening trip for us in a strategic sense for home decor. We have long been trying to decide a theme for our house...now we have it...its gonna be very cool.

So we hung the new grape leaves in the vine above the kitchen, cleaned all those dust caked wine bottles and pictures of the Royals up there. I then punched some new holes in the wall, hanging the filigree thing and the Cafe Au Lait sign. Fortunately i only punched one extra and a curly-Q in the wrought iron covers it nicely. We'll be painting these horribly white walls before too much longer so i didn't feel too bad, me and spackle have gotten to be pretty close over the years.

With all that accomplished, we settled into a lazy 70* partly cloudy Sunday evening in The Kingdom. The Queen went next door to solidify deteriorating public relations (by my own hand) with that woman. Apparently, she made much more headway than i ever could...that's why she's Queen, queens are much better at diplomacy...king's tend to just wanna build moats and throw in the gators...

Anyhoo, i worked more on my new little hobbyhorse, my compost. Its not much, yet. But i've been doing alot of reading and i've got a great start. I absolutely have to get the garden in THIS week...i'm already way late on my planting.

We called Grammy and wished her a HMD too. Even The Prince said a couple "Ha's" in response to her questions.

Pretty enjoyable day. The Queen and i ended it watching the newest Prince swim around in her midsection, the moving undulations getting a quick push from us, only to recieve a punch or kick in return...but that is another post altogether.

Happy Mother's Day to My Excellent Queen!

Great choice of songs (vid?), Jay. I'm danged if I can remember which album this was one, though...

Sounds like your Mom's Day was perfect...

Secret O' Life first appeared in 1977's JT album. Took me a minute to find out myself! I first heard it on the James Taylor LIVE album (1998) which, to me, is still THE definitive collection of JT tunes. Just doing my good service for the day.

Lovely story...nice to hear you enjoyed your day.

I was interested in the compost. Let me know how that works out. I've been looking at plans to build one. Did you build or get a pre-fab?

Diva: yep...you got it.

MamaLou: it was like a sip of Bruichladdich...

Calypso: I gave up on the moat idea when i found out i couldn't keep the gators.

Jewels: check this site and you'll know everything i do about composting. Actually, right know i'm just using some 6 gallon black plastic pots...but i'm thinking about transferring everything into a dumpster, i think i'm losing too much heat. I'll have to drill some air holes in it, but i'm pretty sure it'll work just fine.

Ah Jay,
Thanks for that trip down memory lane. I bought that album when I was a cadet. Of all the song on that album (all good), it was the lyrics to that one that made it into my collection of markings from different sources.
Sorry to be so quiet at my place lately. Lot's going on. I'll get there again. Traveling this weekend. If the sunlight seems brighter in the mornings, it'll be me smiling from Georgia. All about it later. ;-) Doc
