Scenes from a...Mexican restaurant...

Yesterday after church we were going to go with Moondoggie and Moonpuppy1 to the bowlin' alley, grab a burger and shoot some pool, and maybe bowl a few with the kiddos. Alas, the snack bar was closed so we had to figger somethin' else out. Well, you know what that means, we had to choose the lesser of all evils concerning food establishments here in The Black Hole of good restaurants. We left it up to The Queen, who, being prego, takes precedence when it comes to food right now.

Says she: Mexican sounds good...

Cringe i: uhhh OK (trying to sound enthusiastic and deferring to the Dawg)

Moondawg: La Fiesta is my favorite in town...

me: OK well thats good with me...(slumping in the car)

I close the door and start the car...

The Queen: So, where we going?

me: Well...LaFiesta... because of YOU...

She emits this nefarious laugh and: I didn't say we HAD to eat Mexican, i just said it sounded good.

I kinda laughed and said: Well actually i thought Mexican sounded pretty good yesterday so...

We enter and follow the hostess to our table, i kinda snicker while herding the four kids, i guess i didn't realize the size of the place...it's like southcentral Oklahoma's version of Casa Bonita. She seats us at this table on "the patio" and lo...at the next table sat The Blog Mom and her blog fodder. We had a good laugh about that one. Jesse's plate actually looked pretty good so i inquired and she informed, as a recommendation...which i respect, so i was set.

Anyhoo, we check the menu...make our selections and i'm sitting there hoping that it won't be like last time when the queso and salsa both tasted fresh out of can/jar respectively. The Dawg walks me straight into a Pacifico, which i thought, hey, they CAN'T screw up the beer!

So Pedro sets out the chips and salsa and the beverages came out soon after. Lemme just tellya, nothing sets the stage better at a Mexican dive than an ice cold Pacifico, pouring into a salt rimmed frosty mug. As i was pouring, i chanced a look over at The Queen who was locked on to my activity with glazed eyes...so, obviously she got the first drink. Remember those old Nestea commercials?

Yeah, it kinda looked like that...Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!! She's my beer girl, and i love her for that (the list goes on)...

The food arrives with the same old cliche's..."be carful iss verrr hot" yeah bro, just gimme my plato...no, i din't say that, i said thankyou, he was a good waiter. I ordered this Fajita's Vallarta, shrimp, scallops, crab, and talapia with mushrooms, and the obligatory onions and peppers. I gotta say at this point, with a dash or two of salt and a squeeze of lime...it was pretty good. But...
the absolute highlight of the entire meal came with this...

P2 is sitting to my right, who had chosen the mac and cheese (heavily influenced by HRHTDP so i let her slide...she's 3) anyhoo...she sees me open the steaming bowl of tort's, and as i'm piling in the fixin's she looks at me with those big browns that i occasionally swim in and says...

"Daddy, can i have some na'an?"

Well, what do you say to that? She could've had the whole bowl. Says i, "well sure you can baby, but its not na'an, this is a tortilla..."

Moondoggie at that point nails it when he says, "Daddy's just proud you know what na'an is!"

Very perceptive is he, the force is strong with that one.

So my laments of a few months ago are diminished...though they still wail for McCDC's...

stuff like that just makes it all worthwhile...Aaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!

By the way...if you haven't seen this and your a Joel fan...its a must...

Casa Bonita: Taco Bell with atmosphere. And yet, I have fond memories of that place with my Dad during Parent's Weekend at USAFA back in, oh, '77. ;-)

And last night, I was surfing You Tube and came across that same BJ concert. Small world, even the wired one. ;-)

La Fiesta is not my fav, but it is Duncan and we have to make do. The waiter was okay in a suave/slimy sort of way, but not perfecto. I was a little peeved at my slide across the ladie's room, but I could not find any employees to comlain to. Yada, yada, yada.

I had leftover fajitas...which I'll take anyday over anything in any restaurant in Duncan.

I think P-Ville would give Duncan a run for its money as far as "Black Hole of Good Restaurants" goes. But we do have a couple of great, family-owned Mexican places... with real salsa and real other-food. Our ONE redeeming virtue in the culinary world. But, good as it is, it ain't enough.

And Good on Ya, Jay... for raising discerning daughters!!

Just to clarify, La Fiesta is my "favorite" Mexican eatery in Duncan...not in the world or even in the state...just to clarify...

I2: Yeah, i take pride in that fact.

Doc: "Taco Bell with atmosphere", granted, but i'd eat at the Casa 100X before shadowing the door of ANY Bell. I kinda look at the Casa like Monty Python...if you don't experience it as a kid...its just not the same.

MamaLou: your description of the waiter would also accurately describe his place of employment.

Bo: Duh!

Uncle Buck: At least the Port has that...i would wonder if it didn't. You know, the sad thing about here??? We have a world market of people here with Halliburton. I actually am ashamed of what we offer these people to eat.

Thanks, i just hope their future husbands can cook or have a plantary palette.

Dawg: Brah THAT really goes without saying but i totally understand your defense. It did make me consider my favorite restaurant EVER...that could be an interesting post.

correction: that's PLANETARY

Well, I see I've been missing some active conversation on our illustrious eating establishments.
Hmmmm, deja vu! and I'd also venture to say most of them are notable only when looking in the face of sheer hunger when on your outing or just outright defiance to being in the kitchen. lol!!
