As much as i down this area of this state for being an armpit, it really does have some salvable virtues. On Saturday, while The Queen was Florence Nightengaling on the weekend, we (the Flying Dutchman and i) took the Royals out to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Preserve.
Oddly, in the five years that we've lived here and the eleven years we've been coming down here, i've never once ascended Mt. Scott. The odd part about that is, one can drive to the top, so it's not like it's an act of exertion. Another remarkable thing about it is that once one is at the pinnacle...its quite beautiful and much MUCH higher than one realizes looking up to the peak. From the lowland its a nice hill, and one wouldn't necessarily determine it a 'mountain'. Standing at the top,the realization of just how much beauty is concealed at the lower elevations astonishes the senses. Looking out across that plain is an education in perspective.
Beauty is all around us. If we are having difficulty perceiving it, we simply need to shift our perspective, displace the soul from subjacent climes...and ascend..to the unveiled reality.

I have lived in beautiful country and I have lived in really ugly country. This is not the worst, and it has its own unique beauty. What you give up in beautiful land here, you gain in beautiful friendships.
Those are some of the fattest prairie dogs that I have ever seen.
Fat prairie dogs indeed - those things are quite large. And just too cute. Looks like a gorgeous place.
Okay. Suckered me in. ;-)
