Season's Greetings!

Well kids...its almost that time again...yep The Most Wonderful Time of the Year...FOOTBALL SEASON! And here where the Wind comes Sweepin Down the Plains its in our genetic code, its...really...it's... spiritual.

Call us Chokelahoma, say Sooners are really just cheaters, make fun of our schooner (one of the COOLEST mascots in the GAME), whatever you want. But then, ask yourself...when was the last time MY team was in the NCG? When was the last time MY team even got a sniff at a conference title? Where is our crystal ball? So say what you want about the Crimson and Cream...point is, we are there, year in year out, doing what we do best...Play Like A Champion.

I'll try to contain myself and the pride in my state and its teams (yes i hope the Cowboys kick the living CRAP out of the Georgia Dawgs on Saturday) but...

BOOMER FREAKING SOONER!!!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Football
Soon the bands will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the anthem that you sing
Right within your heart.

and OUrs goes little sumthin like this...

Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
Boomer Sooner, O-K-U!

Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, O-K-U!

I'm a Sooner born
And a Sooner bred,
And when I die
I'll be Sooner dead.

Rah, Oklahoma! Rah, Oklahoma!
Rah, Oklahoma! O-K-U!

Just not that excited about football this year. While we were in Lubbock we stopped at a Starbucks for coffee. Toby was wearing his Duncan Dehydrator T-shirt. The guy behind the counter asked if we were OU fans. I adamantly said OSU. He said, "Then you can have your coffee free." Turns out he was from OK City and disliked obnoxious OU fans.

make fun of our schooner...

Well, yes. Yes we DO! :D

Great story, Lou!! LOL, and all that!

The Second Mrs. Pennington (she an alumna of that famous Catholic University that lauds its dedication to football by having an eight story mural of Our Savior "signifying" over the stadium) and I used to get a HUGE kick out of football Saturdays when we lived in OKC. There was definitely NO shortage of things to point and laugh at. I sorta miss it. Sorta.

And yeah: you can rag on me about the state of ND football these days if'n ya wanna. But there IS that history, tradition, and universal nature of the fan base... something OU can't claim, in terms of longevity or world-wide dedication.

All said in the spirit of fun, yanno? :D

But yeah: The fridge is stocked and the teevee primed and ready for the morrow!

Awesome. Band kids rock. Had a buddy at Miss. State who earned a bit of credit toting a tuba. Thing was, he played percussion. Turns out they were short tuba players that year and to fill out the section, they kicked him a few bucks just to walk around with it.
