Mine That Bird!

I didn't really have much to say today until MamaLou reminded me of this... The Queen and i got a reprieve from The Royals this weekend and while eating at Toby Keith's in Bricktown we saw this...

Now just so's y'all know, i must have some kinda ancient horse racin' blood in my veins... it ain't the bettin' for me...its the watchin'. Now, y'all know how much i hate NASCAR, and i do hates me some 'Turn Left' but when it comes to a sheeny granite rippled thoroughbred in full stride, nostrils flared thundering down a mile and a quarter...my heart begins to beat just a little faster...no...alot faster.

Gimme a movie in the speed of Phar Lap or Seabiscuit, National Velvet, even Dreamer...i'm a blubbering idiot at the finish line. I guess i just like me a good 'triumph over tragedy' story...

But THIS...THIS is real life baby! Keep your eye on the trailing end of the pack as they get out of the blocks and the first 1/2 mile...if you watch you'll see Mine That Bird start to move on the inside and then the jockey just turns him loose just before the last turn and the horse punches the afterburners at the end...

FIFTY to ONE BABY!!!

This may just be my favorite horse EVER!

The owners picked Jockey Calvin because he is known to be a "crowd weaver", he just wove through those other horses like silk. Funny, I just watched Dreamer on Saturday night by chance. Every horseman's dream - love those endings when it draws you right up off the couch, close to the screen, screaming your head off! Too cool! HONEY

Have you ever been to the Kentucky Derby, Jay? I've never been but used to have a friend who went EVERY year. He always used to try and get me to come down (or over, or up, depending on where I was). But my buddy went primarily for the parties, which, according to him, rival Mardi Gras in N'Awlins for sheer debauchery and spectacle.

(sigh) Missed opportunities, and all that.

I've never been, but would love to go - and wear a big hat!
