Home at the Holidays...

So this is Christmas...

I love Christmas, its definitely my favorite season as far as decoratin' goes. If i had the cash, i would have a runway on the house top, complete with a air traffic control tower somewhere near the landing strip. Of course, knowing the way i think, i'd also have the sleigh crash landed with dead deer laying everywhere, hanging off the side of the house, maybe even have one particular head with a red nose mounted nicely on a walnut chevron above the garage.

Don't tempt me...i'll do it.

So i'm diligently fulfilling my holiday fealties wrangling with some fru fru garland i had found last week to put over our kitchen. I'm standing on the bar going donnybrook on the grape vine, pine cones and needles, and white lights trying desperately not to knock off the Wine of Fame bottles on the other side (i finally had to take them down before one plunged to its death on the kitchen floor). The Royals were eating some kettle corn i had made to keep them busy...and quiet. This is an futile enterprise with The Prosecutor.

I needed another perspective, so i stepped from the kitchen counter through the opening and up onto the bar on the other side (this is not necessarily a maneuver you'd see on say...Cirque du Soleil, but it does require some elven nimbleness.) I managed it without becoming a statistic and resumed the melee...quietly cursing the obtuse grapevine to the eternal Naughty List.

The Prosecutor appraising my situation, "ooooooOOOOOoooo Daddyyyyyyy, when Grammy and Grampy come, i'm telling on YOU!"

"Me?!...why?!"

"Cuz, you're standin' up there, and I'm telling Grampy to spank you!"

Great. Sometimes i feel like i know where Rodney Dangerfield was coming from.

Today The Queen and i are standing in the kitchen, we're back by the fridge and hidden from the Royals who are all centered around the X-Man and his walker situated in front of the TV and the mandatory early NFL Sunday matchup. So you've got that picture in your mind, now figure in...four kids giggling and yapping, the surround sound of crowd noise, on field action, and commentators yammering on at a slightly elevated over nominal decibel level. I'm looking for something sweet for my after lunch...The Queen quietly suggests, "You want some Batman gummies?"

My reply of "Hey, that sounds pretty good, i love those things" had barely fallen from my salivating lips when we hear from twenty feet away...

"ME WANT SOME MATMAN HUMMIES!!!!!!" and the sound of running feet.

The Prince rounds the corner of the kitchen like he's rounding third in Game 7 one run down, i mean he's INTENT! "ME WANT SOME MATMAN HUMMIES!"

I looked at The Queen..."Man, that radar is always on." With pictures of those AWAC's that used to fly over our OKC house i thought...

How DO they DO that?

Oh hey...Happy Birthday Grampy!!

Yesterday after church the Prosecutor said, "Mama Lou, where is Lizzie?" I replied that she was home sick. The Prosector then asked, "Why?"

They can't hear you when you are standing right next to them and you need them to do something - right?

Kids - this never changes does it.

Dang. Kris stole my thunder, coz I was gonna mention the exact same thing... which only gets worse as they get older. I was seriously worried both boys would fail the hearing portion of their military physicals, based upon their complete inability to hear a single thing I said to them during their teen-aged years...

"Wines of Fame." Now THAT sounds like some great blog-fodder!

I LOVE THIS PIC!! Gives him a TOTALLY different look. I always thought him to have the solid Neel look, but in this pic, I see Grampy..the eyes, the smile, chin, etc. I even put a pic of Grampy as a little boy next to it and WOW!
