Four years ago this morning, The Queen and i took a nice leisurely drive down to the birthing center. Seriously, it was nothing like the somewhat frantic race we had taken sixteen months previous. No Hollywood weaving in and out of traffic, no screaming at other drivers and nurses when we finally screech to a halt in a panic (of course, we didn't do that the first time either...ok well i didn't scream at the nurses). No this was quite peaceful actually. From all my delivery days in OKC i knew all the backroads to the center and we both watched the first rays of the sun pierce the azure on pink clouds on another sultry, languid summer morning on our way in, it was quite beautiful...and somewhat prophetic...
The Queen had actually been in labor for a couple hours but had waited to wake me up until around 6:30, and she quietly said, "I think we probably oughta get going..." i had no idea she was even up. I knew immediately what she was saying and got out of bed. She let me know there was no big rush, and we both were able to get a quick shower in before leaving. The appropriate calls were made...GBN1's mom, God bless her soul, came quickly to spend the morning with HRHTDP who was still sleeping peacefully in her room.
Arriving at the clinic, i assume that our casualness fooled the attending nurses. In fact, her smile and somewhat patronizing, "Honey, you think you're in labor?" suggested she was thinking,"We'll be sending this one home..." That is to say until we got into the exam room and the nurse checked The Queen and her surprised look was priceless...."oh...OH MY...your dialated to a seven and your water is gonna break any time! Let's get you admitted!" And then, my friends, the corn started poppin' and i, having been in this kitchen before, just stood back and watched the show.
A little less than three hours later, i watched The Queen give birth to our second precious baby girl. When i saw her head, my thought was, as always, "Good Gosh Amighty! How does THAT come out of THERE?!! and then my friends, like a old time telegraph printer spitting out ticker tape, that little girl kept coming out, and kept coming out, to the point that my eyes widened and i thought, "Where does she end?" Nine pounds two ounces and twenty three inches later...she entered this realm. And girl, did you ever let us know you were here! Yet, once she was in the warmer, i spoke softly to her and she, like her sister, recognized my voice and calmed down...for a little while.
That was four years ago today...
Now, she has a quick, infectious laugh, that fills anyones heart with joy upon hearing, especially ours. She's the tenderhearted mommy, and plays the role well when its time to play house. She's our budding prosecuting attorney, full of "How...Why...and When did this happen?" Yet she is the thoughtful one...rarely wanting the spotlight, and when its on her, its her preference to demur. And one only needs a glance to desire a dive into those large dark chocolate pools behind the long lashes and that quick clever smile. Yep, she's our "Little Miss Magic".
Happy Birthday Leah Skye, may the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you and give you Grace, Peace, and Mercy all the days of your life...We love you so very much!
