A Toast...

Uncle Buck talks about the "moonbats" alot over at his house.

Well, today, we had a houseful of the Moondawg's pups. They are the extreme antithesis of what is defined as "moonbats". They are just good, good boys and bestest friends of The Royals.

Believe me, they had a time...and the entire neighborhood knew it. Toys, as if collected by a wild Oklahoma dust devil, were scattered from the toybox in the Princes room all the way out the door to the street. By the days end they had clad themselves in hard earned Spring dirt from crown to calloused bare feet and everywhere in between. From sandbox to swingset like frenzied ants wearing down a hallowed trail they scurried back and forth. As the afternoon wore on and the sun bore in...the boys slipped their shirts and metamorphosized into miniature Hulks chasing down screaming girls in their path of imagined destruction. Finally, predator and prey all needed refreshment, and a steady stream lined the kitchen counter and the gallon sized pitcher of sweet tea, the dirty smiles all in reverent unison...."Aahhhhhh!"

That's what i said as i watched them...."Aaahhhhh...sweet sweet youth in the Spring of their lives..." i'll have a round of that sweet tea myself...and a toast to being a kid.

[as a post script...if you didn't click on any of the links, click the "sweet tea" one for one of my better offerings.]

When Bo was about 14, he had a couple of his buddies over at our house. They found some toy guns that shot plastic disks (you know us and guns)and were chasing each other around the house diving, hiding, jumping and shooting each other with great relish. I remember thinking that pictures could fall off of the wall or dishes shake out of the cabinets. But mostly I remember the joy that they brought while just being boys. Enjoy each stage and age of your children - they are all so precious.

Sometimes i wonder about stuff like that...and think, forget it...just let'em be kids. Its just stuff and the memories will last alot longer. I think i should think that ALOT more. Thanks for the reminder.

(meekly stands up) Hello, everyone. My name is Julinda. I'm from Oklahoma & (gasp) I don't like sweet tea.

(raises glass of unsweetened iced-tea with lots of lemon) Hear, hear, to all your children here & yet to come!
