OK here's an entertainment short while i assimilate all the party pics from yesterday. I know i should apparently say this almost reverentially but...
Today is Daytona. I also know that's supposed to mean something other than string bikini's, the smell of beer and burning rubber, but not being a Nascar fan... you should read THIS POST for my thoughts on Nascar. I'm going to really try to understand it all today, i'll be watching with a fan of about 40 years, so if it don't take today...it never will.
Stay tuned for The Party Report...

...but not being a Nascar fan...
Dang, Jay, that appears to be an almost lethal combo of anti-Americanism coupled and a severe testosterone deficiency. In some circles, anyway.
That said... I'm with ya, not agin ya. I've been to a couple of Grand Nationals and, "ambiance" aside, I prefer races where the cars make the occasional right turn. While I'm on about it, I much prefer races where the vehicles have two less wheels. But ya know how opinions are, and what they're worth... ;-)
I agree with Buck motorcycle races are way cooler than NASCAR. But NASCAR is cool for about then I get bored. Don't tell anybody I said that. I could be shot. (most likely with a double barrel sawed off shot gun) ;)
I meant for about 30 laps. I can not type today.
I don't get NASCAR either. I never have and I never will.
Give me some SEC Football any day of the week. Any... Day.
Well, Jay, I wanted to just leave a comment, but the damned thing grew into a post. Linked you though. ;-)
Until you've sat in the grandstands in the turn with a cooler of beer, cold fried chicken and sausage biscuits between your feet, and left at the end of the day coated in a fine dust of tire rubber that comes floating up from said turn over the course of the day, you ain't quite done NASCAR right. It's big TV now. But to understand what makes for a real fan, you need to feel those engines spool up when the green comes out. One time will be enough brother. Just once in the flesh and you'll see what I mean. TV's cool and all, what with the onboard cameras and such, but that ain't what it's all about. Trust me on this one.
I'm gonna have to agree with Doc, 100%, and looking forward to your next post piper:) (I beat ya)
Good Lord! i had no idea this post was gonna generate this kinda response. Well, i suppose the "Turn Left" link would've. OK lemme get started:
Uncle Buck: i'm assuming "anti-americanism" is tongue-in-cheek. I'm good with most americans, as long as they're not yankees or what i refer to as West Coast yankees. You don't know this but i grew up about 45 minutes from Hallett raceway. I've never been there but always wanted to go. I've even had friends in the past who have raced there. I always thought the two wheelers were much more exciting.
I-squared: Well...apparently, not all Neckcar fans are...that. That said...i'm not saying i'm all there, but my interest is piqued. I wouldn't worry about anyone coming around you with big guns...your dad's got bigger and more of'em.
Bou: Ahhh...NOW we're talkin'! I've almost converted SEC more than once. Being Sooner born and Sooner bred makes that a bit difficult. I'd have a hard time picking a team though. I've always liked the Hogs. The Sooners and the Tide have a long standing respect for one another. And then there's ELLESHEW...i do likes me some cajun. Sorry, no team in FL interests me in the least. Miami ruined the entire state for me.
Doc: Well...like you, my response basically turned into a post. Thanks for the link love.
"Trust me on this one." I will...i'm sure i'll be heading down to the Texas Motor Speedway with my brother before long.
D2D: Thanks to "The Shaunator"
for the Nascar class yesterday. I actually got pretty excited there at the end. Although i must say, if there had been a "green/white checker" whatever the heck that means (see linked post) i would've probably made a scene.
i'm assuming "anti-americanism" is tongue-in-cheek.
Most definitely!
Amen to my new brother in racing.....DOC. If ya ain't been, then you haven't lived. The atmosphere is just....titillating. Plan on going with me in either April or November to Texas Motor Speedway. I'm jacked up sideways about going already. Boogity.... Boogity....Boogity... Let's go racin boys.
Big Bro
Blech... I hate Miami. Fortunately, they aren't SEC. Neither is FSU! Only UF... which now that Spurrier is gone, I now root for. I don't root for South Carolina anymore. May they rot...
i don't root for 'Bama anymore, although I used to be a BIG fan. I'vd paid homeaget to The Bear a couple times as his gravesite is close to my grandaddy's. But fans who throw bricks through coach's windows because they aren't living up to 'The Bear's' legacy, bother me, so I quit rooting for 'Bama.
But... 'Bama against anyone not SEC, other than USNA or UMich (my folks' alma matres), i will root for 'Bama!
