On Golden Pond...a treatise

Night before last i was feelin' pretty uninspired. Tonight...well i pulled a different bottle of wine off the rack. Yesterday evening we had D2D and the fam over for Indian night (thats dot not feather), it was Buttered Chicken and a spot of curried poultry with almost all the appropriate chutney's (had i not practically drank the coriander last time) and of course, the illustrious na'an, all laid out on a warm bed of basmati rice. If you wanna know...ask her.

Anyway, about tonight...I got a wild hair...well kinda. Since we had indian last night i didn't wanna do Thai tonight...why? psssh...I donno, but i didn't. And i've had this fresh frozen pumpkin i wanted to do something with. So i decided to soup it. Yup, fresh punkin' soup. I'll save the expletives...it was good. In fact, if The Queen wasn't already bakin' a biscuit...yeah, it was THAT good.

Here's the rough parameters...stick o'butter, couple turns around the track with some EVOO, minced onion, and mashed garlic...saute all that. Bout a pound of diced punkin', then 3 cups o' chicken stock, let that come to temp. Yank the rope on the boat motor and puree to your little hearts content. Once you snap out of the cruise around Golden Pond, pour on the halfnhalf and about a half a cup o'white wine (or 3/4 or maybe a full cup), S&P, cayenne, Tony Cachere's, and the piece de resistance...about of 1/2 cup o' fresh bacon bits an a little slosh of that liquid gold from the bacon. A handful of green onion slivers, and top it off with a sprig of cilantro...an you gotcherself a bowl of love.

Of course, yours may not turn out quite as good without a sous chef du jour like this one... but not everyone can be so fortunate...

Everything sounds good except the pumpkin. But then I have never been a big soup fan. I got a spanking when I was little for telling someone who was serving soup that i did not like soup. It didn't make me like soup any better.

Sounds very good. I like ethnic foods, as long as it not some body part that should not be consumed.

Wow...looks and sounds great!

And your post reminds me that it's that time of year for my Annual Act of Cooking... a big-ass pot of Navy Bean soup. The weather's just about perfect right now...

the soup sounds fantastic! i really miss cooking with milk and creams and all the dairy additives I grew up cooking with. since Tamala can't have the dairy I don't ever say anything. Of course she's always saying I should enjoy whatever I want to but I certainly don't want her to feel deprived.
I must admit - we ate at Schlotzsky's a couple weeks ago and I had some of their potato soup. It was OFF THE CHART!
I may just have to mix up some of my Broccoli and cheese soup this weekend. It's supposed to get down in the single digits overnight and the highs are only going to be in the low 20's.
Is it soup yet?.....
