Lots and lots of 18 year old Glenmorangie Port Wood finish. Well, actually, that won't necessarily make you feel 'better', it will just make you feel nothing...and have a good time getting there.
I continue to get requests for this, and it really does make you feel better. I don't really know why...it just does. Especially at this time of year when the sniffles seem to reach their cold bony fingers into the soul and pickpocket your joy. Here's a great recipe to melt those icy appendages...
Hot Ginger Soup
3 1/2 C. chicken stock (or 3 C. water and 4 chicken bouillon cubes)
1 T. mashed or minced fresh ginger
3 cloves minced garlic
2 green onions diced into ringlets and tiny white coins
1/2 C. thinly diced baby portobello or button mushrooms
1 t. Thai/cinnamon basil julienned (if available)
1/4 t. cayenne (or however hot you can take it)
OR
1-2 Thai peppers (fresh or dried) thinly sliced
1 T. fish sauce
1 T. soy sauce (my personal favorite is the Kikkoman)
juice from 1 lime wedge
While the chicken stock is heating prepare all the fresh ingredients and add everything once the stock is nice and hot. Let this simmer together for 5-10 minutes. If you want it a little heartier you could add some ramen, pasta, or rice noodles. If you don't have a spicy hot mouth adjust the peppers as necessary, but remember, its the capsicum in the peppers that is really helping to drive out the snot goblins. Therefore, the hotter the better.
Pour into a nice big coffee cup, sit down and write comments by clicking on the "Crickets Chirping" below...

Dunno about the goblins, but I sure can vouch for the snot! In quarts, when you're ill... tablespoons, otherwise.

TO ALL: i realized after making this today that i hope you like it:
a) salty, 1T. of fish sauce with 4 cubes of chicken bouillon may be too much for most, but i like it.
b) Like Robert Palmer said,
